Bavarian Lodge and Leavenworth

Hiking entry; trying to catch up with them before I forget the details. :)

Bavarian Lodge

- About 2 hours away
- $200 a night for a room with a fireplace, jacuzzi and DVD player. Very cozy rooms.
- They let you check out DVDs to watch them in the room.
- Very big, brand new bathroom with walk-in shower.
- They watch every detail in the room and bathroom, including sparkling cyder, q-tips, stuff to remove make-up and bath robes.
- Very comfortable and the staff is very nice.
- Late checkout is 11:30pm.
- Totally worth the price. Wonderful experience, I can't think of anything bad.
- Book through this website. There is another place in Leavenworth with a very similar name and it's easier to mix them.
- Visited in May 2009.

About Leavenworth in general

- The river is right next to the town and it has some really nice view. We didn't do much hiking.
- Lots of little stores, not very expensive. Very touristy, but overall a very nice, peaceful town.
- Good bar with fondue and gazpacho as appetizers.
- King Ludwig has some really good German food. Watch out, the rations are huge even for lunch.
- Very nice coffee/gelato place which makes gelato frappe. Basically, a shake of any gelato flavors you want. Very good.
- Very nice waffle store and pizza restaurant right next to the lodge. Pizza restaurant does not take credit cards, but will take checks and cash.
- There is also a small inside mall with a chocolate store that brings them weekly from Switzerland. SO good. :9
- Bring cash. Many stores and restaurants don't take credit cards. There are ATMs around town, but bring cash if you don't want to pay comission.
- We went to Blackbird island for hiking, but we didn't hike much. :) That goes to the Wishlist for the next time. The river was very nice, though. Lots of ducks and birds. We visited it at dusk and the sunset was very beautiful.
- You can see the huge mountains behind the town. Very nice.

The previous fire and then floods of 2006 can still be seen on the way there. On the way back we decided to stop at Lake Wenatchee. There were some people swimming on the other side of the lake and playing my favorite Iron and Wine CD. :) Definitely, a place I would like to go back to sometime and spend a relaxing weekend. It's worth stopping on the way there for a picnic. :)
