The Trial of Tom Robinson
In recent news Tom Robinson, a young African American, has been accused of rape. Robinson has been brought into custody. Robinson’s accuser is Mayella Ewell. The relationship between the two started as a few favors, as there friendliness continued one of the two developed feelings. According to, Heck Tate, the attending officer at the scene, “On the night of November 21, Bob Ewell urged him to go to the Ewell house and told him that his daughter Mayella had been raped.” When Tate got there, he found Mayella bruised and beaten, and she told him that Tom Robinson had raped her.” The Ewell’s lawyer, Mr. Gilmer, was the first to call witnesses. Heck Tate was first to be called to the stand his testimony stated, “No doctor was summoned.” Atticus Finch the defense’s attorney was also informed about the fact that, “Mayella’s bruises were concentrated on the right side of her face.” The next witness to be called to stand was Bob Ewell, he testified that, “he was coming out of the woods with a load of kindling when he heard his daughter yelling. When he reached the house, he looked in the window and saw Tom Robinson raping her. Robinson fled, and he went into the house, saw that his daughter was all right, and ran for the sheriff.”
Atticus Finch took the floor and made a discovery of the fact that reason no doctor was called because the Ewells were too poor and there was no actual need for a doctor. Atticus also brought about the fact Mr. Ewell is left-handed and the bruises on Mayella’s face were most likely from a person whom is left-handed.
