Chequered Court
This is a dance we did for the first time last night.
THE CHEQUERED COURT, (J8x32), 3C (4C set) (D Brown RSCDS Bk 42)
bars of music dance pattern
1- 8 1s cross RH, cast 1 place, 1s dance 1/2 Figs of 8 (Man round 2s & Lady round 3s) & end facing 1st corners
The first couple take right hands as they pass each other and dance behind to second place - second couple moving up, the first man dances between the second couple and around the second lady, the first lady dances between the third couple and around the third man and the first couple end facing their first corners (woman faces second man, man faces third lady)
9-16 1s dance Pass+Turn with 1st corners & 1s twirl round in centre to face 4th crnrs, 1s dance Pass+Turn with 4th crnrs & twirl round to face own sides
The first couple dance around their first corners while the first corners dance into the middle, turn by the right hand and back to place. The first couple approach in the middle, spin around and face their fourth corners (the first lady faces the second lady, the first man faces the third man). The first couple dance around their fourth corners while the corners dance into the middle, turn by the right hand and back to place. The first couple end in the middle facing their own sides of the dance.
17-24 1s dance 6 bars of Double Triangles & end with 1L between 2s facing 2L & 1M between 3s facing 3M
The first couple (back to back) dance Double triangles with the second and third couples, the first lady holding hands with the ladies, the first man with the man for two setting steps, the first couple turn around so that the first man is facing the ladies' side and the first lady the men's and they dance Double Triangles with them for two setting steps. The first couple turn with setting steps so that the lady ends up between the second couple facing the the second lady and the first man ends up between the third couple facing the third man.
25-32 1s dance reel of 3 across giving RSh to 4th corners & 1s cross RH to own sides
Two reels of three across the set each starting with the right shoulder pass, the first lady with the second couple and the first man with the third couple. At the end of the reel the first couple take right hands to cross to their own sides.
