Thanksgiving is next week. Advent starts the Sunday after that and I expect to see whining posts about putting "Christ" in Christmas shortly there after.
Putting Christ in Christmas doesn't have anything to do with how a person is greeted, throwing a fit because someone says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" is the exact opposite of the Christmas ideal, in fact.
No, putting Christ in Christmas means behaving like Christ. Being loving and forgiving and forebearing. Accepting what is offered in the spirit it is offered and offering of yourself freely and without bias or hatred.
If you are serious about putting Christ into Christmas, then stay home on Black Friday and contemplate on the true blessings with which you have been graced. Cut back on the great displays of lights and ornaments, the ones you put up to make your neighbours and friends jealous. Give one gift that has personal meaning instead of the most expensive thing you can think of.
Give without thinking about about getting.
If you really want to put Christ back into Christmas, celebrate Advent properly, with prayer and contemplation and a sense of quiet wonder ahd hope.
God knows, as do we all, that this year we need hope more than ever.
