I'm not too pleased with how this came out, but I suppose it's all for the best. I had thought that the inspiration photo actually showed the soccer shirt, but it turns out to be just a regular shirt after all.
I'm planning to send the outfit to my great-nephew's doll (aka Jared) - except for the long-sleeved black shirt; that's part of a wip. I'm hoping to turn it into a child's idea of a Batman costume - you know, black sweat-pants, Batman logo black shirt, cape and face-mask.
And I'm planning to keep the ball for Hill - she misses hers. I wish I had some way of getting soccer shoes ... or even just sneakers ... for her. American Girl doll shoes on her reminds me of the song Darling Clementine - "herring boxes without topses".
The tee-shirt was made with an ordinary tee-shirt pattern, I'm not sure from what source because they're all so similar. Ditto the shorts. The fabric for the tee-shirt was a baby's 12 mo onesie - with a soccer detail on the chest. The shoes and socks came from
Dragonflies.
The shin-guards are made from a white #2 plastic pill bottle (Tylenol or 1-a-Day vitamins). To remove the label, fill the bottle about 1/3 with tap water then the rest of the way with boiling water. put the cap on tightly so it doesn't spill. TWithin seconds, the glue should soften enough to remove the label without leaving a sticky residue.
I used a penknife to cut off the top and bottom and then a pair of scissors to shape the guards. I poked holes 1/8th of an inch apart all around the perimeter of the guard using a tack and then hand-sewed the single-edge binding around before sewing on an elastic band. The size of the shin-guards and length of elastic band needed depend on the doll - and the size of the bottle you're using.
