That was said in my dream this morning; I felt it was intrinsically true.
In my dream, some evidence had come to light ("a crying letter cache" found by a hacker in a military database) implicating a decorated war hero of a general of specific war crimes. The only living witness to his involvement was an Afghan woman, living in the war zone.
Amanda Tapping was in the dream as a cross between Sam Carter of StarGate, SG1 and Helen Magnus in Sanctuary. She was an officer, a combat veteran with multiple tours under her belt. There was the implication in the dream that she was suffering from some physical disability or illness that she hid, minimized and ignored as far as possible. She was convinced that the general was dirty and determined to bring him to justice if it was the last thing she did.
She volunteered to retrieve the witness. When that was refused, she recruited me to help with the retrieval anyway. I'm not really sure what or who my character was or what my role was in the operation - I think I was just there as an observer, but I may have been some sort of communications tech.
Somewhere along the line, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow - Or it might have been Faith of Buffy: the Vampire Slayer) attached herself to our group. We wouldn't have been able to achieve our goals without her kick-ass abilities.
We did get the witness, and we picked up the hacker who had discovered the "crying letter cache" (the dream image I had when he described what he'd found was of him hugging this thing - a slightly smaller than body-sized rounded coffin of black carbonite with the face of the damned on it, eyes closed, mouth open, emitting wails. It was humorous in the dream, but it seems ... ominous in retrospect.) The hacker was haunted - there's no other way to describe his haggard, anxious, at the end of his tether appearance. Or maybe ... maybe he was hunted. There were many who wanted to silence both the letter cache and the hacker.
In the dream, we were in a vehicle, a van I guess. Amanda was driving, Natasha in the front passenger seat, I was behind Amanda and the hacker was in the rearmost bench. He was speaking bitterly about how the powerful were never brought to justice. I turned around and said to him "They cannot be brought to account until they are held accountable."
We were taking the witness and the hacker to a place of safety where they could tell their stories so justice could be done. Amanda went into the compound with them; Natasha and I were turned away. We were told that Amanda had collapsed due to her physical condition and was under treatment. But Natasha .... wasn't military; she was under no oath to obey orders and, frankly, picayune orders weren't anything she was in the habit of obeying anyway. She broke into the compound and I went with her.
We found the general under accusation in charge. Natasha took him down - gave him a shot of something in a hypo she just 'happened' to have on her. The place was a holding area for potentially embarassing persons. There was the implication that the hacker was involved - that he was a plant intended to trap Amanda, but that may just have been the general's attempt to cast us into disarray.
