Tomorrow is my brother's birthday, he'll be 58. For the next 4 days, he and my oldest sister will be the same age, then she turns 59.
I sent him a package last week, it arrived Friday and has been languishing at the PO since then (the dogs wouldn't accept it). So I called him to let him know that - yes, it was safe to go pick it up - that it didn't contain home-baked goods he can't eat or knicknacks that collect dust. In fact, it contains dog treats, chew toys and a stuffie for the old house-bound dog.
While my brother and I were chatting, he told me that the old dog had passed away on Saturday.
After we finished our call, I thought that perhaps I should call my sister to let her know that there's a package on the way to her as well, for her birthday. Her husband answered - she's asleep ( which is not at all surprising, she gets up extremely early to go in to make donuts for the Dunkin Donut down there). But then he told me that she's not doing well.
Mary lost a LOT of weight recently. Anne-Marie lost a lot of weight recently. Being told that Mary "isn't doing well" is setting off all kinds of alarums and bells. Worries. It might just be a winter cold.
I hope it's just a winter cold.
* meaning that I wish wasn't true, not that I didn't want to know.
