All my worries about the intense pain I had in my hand yesterday ... last night I checked my pillows again and found that I had the wrong one under my head. Makes a big difference.
I made a birthday card for my baby brother's elder daughter; it's ready to post now. So far this year, I've written to my mother three times and once each to Mary, John, Karen, Ellen, Tony and Jerri. And a postcard to Briley. I have to keep reminding myself that I am doing this for myself, out of my own conceit, and that no one "owes" me anything in return.
To be fair, the letter to Jerri was a response to a thank-you note and the letters to Karen and Justina are birthday cards.
So what kind of stuff am I writing to people - pretty much the same sort of thing I write here. Pure blather. Minutiae of the day, memories of times past, complaints about random matters, stories that I think are neat.
The card to Karen had a picture from the Arabian Nights on it, the one to Justina a crystal-gazing seer(ess) from a Dover clipart book.
I had a LOT of trouble finding that book. I remembered it being up in the office, so I went through every shelf, every stack I could think looking for it - no joy. I'd finally given up when I suddenly remembered that the drawing books (aside from Leonardo's sketchbook) were in the downstairs library and that's where I found them.
This is the image I used
with the words "A' h-uile latha sona dhut, Gun lath' idir dona dhut" running up one side of the window and down the other. That means "Every day good to thee, no dat at all of bad to thee."
Beneath the window, I printed (iirc) "I've read the omens, the stars align, cast the runes to write this sign..." The card opens and reads "Good fortune attend thee on the day of thy birth, Fourteen years upon this earth, Sun and moon and stars shine bright, to grant thee all thy heart's delight."
It's a four-fold card, so I wrote a page of blather on the inside unfolded. Then I folded and glued an envelope to fit it because ... well, I never can find a suitably sized envelope - can you?
