Woke up this morning with this prayer in mind God is with me lying down.
God is with me rising up.
God is with me in every ray of light.
I have no joy without Him, not a single ray of light without Him.
Christ is with me sleeping.
Christ is with me waking.
Christ is with me watching,
Every day and every night, each and every day and night.
God is with me protecting.
The Lord is with me directing.
The Spirit is with me strengthening.
Always and forevermore, forever and ever, Amen.
Lord of lords, Amen.
It's from the
Carmina Gadelica, a collection of Gaelic songs/ prayers/ spells from the last century - gathered by a Victorian preacher when he realised that the older people who knew them and knew the language were dying out without passing their knowledge on to the younger generation. The world was changing and as a man of God he felt it incumbent upon him to record part of his heritage before it was forever lost. This is probably my favorite prayer in the entire collection, it reflects my faith that the Deity is always around, with one, whether one is aware of Him or talking to Him or religious at all. It's very similar in tone to a
prayer/poem written by a medieval rabbi, a poem I memorised in high school because it touched me so deeply in my beliefs.
I chatted with my beloved for a while last night ... well, early this morning, really. A little after midnight for me, before 8 for him. Then he went off to breakfast, and I to bed. For some reason, I slept late this morning. I guess the nap yesterday didn't really help. I need to get myself going, get dressed and eat, then I'm planning to go into the school to put away books and water the plants.
