Rose knew exactly where she wanted to go; she’d seen the hotel from the Eiffel Tower. It looked grand and old and oh so beautiful. It was her turn to lead him by the hand now. Anyway, he still seemed a little distracted, but she didn’t mind. If she had nay say in the matter, she’d be the one to distract him later. When she spotted her destination she vigorously tugged the Doctor’s arm again down the block.

When they reached the entrance of the hotel she started in the door, but was abruptly yanked backwards when her left hand refused to move with the rest of her body. Though it was difficult to say, she decided that the most probable reason was the fact that it was attached to an alien man who apparently had stopped in his tracks.

“Why are we here?” the Doctor gave her a quizzical look and continued to stand fast.

“Hotel, remember? You said it was a brilliant idea?” She made another attempt at moving him closer to the door, but he looked at his blonde companion like she had suddenly sprouted a second head.

“Did I?” he coked his eyebrow at her. Oh, no she wasn’t going to take any of this. He said so and she was holding him to it.

“Yeah, you did actually.” She smiled at him indignantly as she introduced her other hand to his leather covered arm. He still wasn’t budging.

“Oh, well I changed my mind.” His eyes were alight; the blue contrasted with the color of his cheeks, which, if she did say so herself even though it was quite dark, had taken on a twinge of pink.

“Nuh, uh... Not this time, Doctor. if it was too damn domestic, than you shouldn’t have said yes.” She pulled at his hand with double the force. She spit her scarf out of her mouth; this was proving quite difficult. “You said we could go to a hotel. I happen to like this one. Now, come...on!” She grunted and managed to move him a bit but at this rate the hotel would be gone by the time they got in the door. They only had, what, five billion year until the Earth burned up?

“Oh... Fine...” He moaned. She felt his arm relax and he looked away from her; though he couldn’t seem to hide a tiny smile that grew on the corners of his lips. Rose took the chance to lead him into the revolving glass doors of the hotel. “This place seems oddly familiar actually...”

They had nearly reached the inner doors when he stopped again. Where were those running legs now, huh? Rose turned back to him again to see what it was this time. The Time Lord was staring, open mouthed at a sign on the wall. His hand slackened in hers as he stood there gaping and utterly still.

“Why this hotel?” His eyebrows creased and there wasn’t a hint of a smile on his face.

“What d’you mean?” Rose walked over and joined him at his side. He was looking at the welcome sign reading the name of the hotel.

“Why this hotel?” The Doctor repeated. He turned to face her and this time his tone was noticeably harsher. His eyes studied her as she stumbled.

She was taken a bit aback by the darkness in his voice. “Ummm... I don’t know... It just looked nice...” She stumbled over her words. Why the hell did it matter anyway? Wasn’t he overreacting a little? “Why? Does it really matter?”

His hand was out of hers and took up the task of massaging his temple as he closed his eyes; his other hand ran through his close cropped hair. He sighed before replying. “We can’t stay here...”

“Why?” She challenged him. “Is it because I chose it and not you? Or maybe because you think the whole idea of a holiday is stupid? Look Doctor, I happen to like this holiday so far even though you’ve been acting mighty odd this entire time...” She knew she was being a bit sharp with him, but why did he have to be so bloody difficult? She regretted her words the moment he looked back at her.

“Let’s go to a different one, alright? I promise we’ll still go to a hotel, just not this one...” His eyes were no longer threatening, but soft and sober; almost pleading for her to listen. “Listen, I can’t really explain now, but...” His voice trailed off as his head darted back to the opening door when an elderly couple rushed inside and then to the watch on his hand. He tapped his wristband impatiently; she supposed it had still been set for Barcelona time.

What could possibly be so bad? He couldn’t tell her and yet he seemed frightened somehow... She heard a thunder clap and raindrops begin to tatter the glass windows. It was going to become a right torrent out there if the rapid increase of raindrops was any sort of indication. It would be just asking for trouble to go back out there and by the sullen expression on the Doctor’s face, he knew it too.

She tried to reason with him. “Listen, it’ll be hell to try and go back out there now. We’re already in here anyway and...” She hazarded a glance into his eyes but dropped it immediately. “I mean... If you really don’t want to stay here, let’s just sit in the lobby until the rain lets up, yeah?” Rose kept her eyes on her red boots and nervously fingered one of the large buttons on the front of her trench. She felt a cool hand find its way onto her cheek.

“You’re right... it would be ridiculous to go out there.” The doctor’s deep accent spoke above the constant spattering of raindrops. He paused before removing his hand from her cheek and placing his long fingers around the smaller ones playing with the button. “We’ll stay... But just until the rain stops.” He wagged a finger in front of her nose, but a smaller version of his crazy grin inhabited his face.

Rose returned the grip on his hand and followed him as he opened the door for her. Though he was smiling, she doubted he felt any better.
