Today has been pretty sweet. I woke up and laid around in bed while Nik watched the parade on TV. Around noon we went over to the orchard for dinner. So much good food. Cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli casserole, homemade rolls, salad, pie. I love it. After dinner we went up into the orchard to find our Christmas tree. Nik spotted one that was just perfect. He cut it down and we took it home to occupy a corner of our dining room. We listened to some Christmas music and decorated the tree. This is seriously the first year I've ever had a tree up so early. It was great pulling out all our ornaments and putting them on the tree. Schizy even has her own ornament. Our tree is all crazy and cute. Nik made a Hello Kitty tree topper for me. This weekend we are going to Kansas to have Thanksgiving with my family. I love it. Ever since I was a kid this has been one of my favorite holidays. We would always go to my grandma's house. My sisters and I would set the table. My grandma would make the greatest food. The dads would watch football in the living room. After everyone else had left, my parents and my sisters and I would stay late and play cards with my grandparents and we would all nibble away at the leftovers. Things have changed a lot over the years, but this day is still one of favorites. We still all get together and eat great food and enjoy the day. A day to relax. A day to have fun. A day to enjoy the people you love. A day to eat and not feel guilty about calories. A day to make into whatever you want it to be. A day to start new traditions and remember the old. The holidays have always been an important time in my family and that's exactly how I want it to stay.
