These cute critters are known as Momonga. As this Momonga website puts it, Momonga is 'a lovely little animal and inhabit only in Japan', and is 'the principal flying squirrel species in Japan'. It is the 'relatively large musasabi (Petaurista leucogenys) of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.' You can see more pictures of them at the linked website. :D
