post-it notes just sometimes don't hack it!

In college, I was a big fan of leaving notes, especially post-it notes, for myself about everything and anything that had to be done. I depended on them so much that i think i ruined my memory for a while. I still use them from time to time whenever i feel the occasion is necessary.

In my old apartment, heat and hot water were both included in my rent, aka, i didn't have to make a habit of remembering to turn the heat down when i left. I also had national grid as my electric company who was dirt cheap...... Then I moved to Fitchburg.

Unitil is the monopoly utility company in the area and with being so, it can charge outrageous amounts of money. If you live in the burg and have the pleasure of paying for your heat and hot water, then you know exactly what i'm talking about. In the first two weeks that i had my heat on, my untility bill increased by 70 dollars...just for heat!!!!! and that only includes half a month.

Ok, so in lack of not having the heat on for the first three months that i have lived in my apartment, i will admit to having forgotten to turn the heat down when it needs to be, but i have made a habit to religiously turn the heat down when it needs to be.

So, for those who don't know, my boyfriend moved in about a month and a half ago. It's been going great so far, until last week on monday, he told me that when he came to work (I leave at 11:30 and he strolls in around 4), that he accidently left the heat on, he forgot to mention that it was 80 degrees in the house). I told him to be careful and i'll put a note on the door that we use to go outside to help reminding us. It was a blue post-it note that said "HEAT" on it and it was double secured with a tack. It has helped me tremendously, especially since the thermostat is in the living room and the door to exit is in the kitchen.

Anthony came to work tonite and as i mentioned not to forget to request next thursday nite off bc of a concert that we're going to, he told me that he once again forgot to turn down the heat when he left the house. I asked him how high it was, he said that he didn't know. I asked him if he saw the posti-it note as he was leaving. Apparently, the post-it note wasn't big enough for him bc he forgot.I came home and the heat was CRANKED to 90 degrees.....

So, I placed a hot pink 11 x 8 and a half piece of paper with a simple reminder to please remember to turn the heat down on the door at about his eye level. If his misses this, i don't know what to do next...any helpful hints are welcomed....let's see if this works.
