It was a chilly morning and a cool breeze flew in through an open window. Keito slouched in his chair, calmly turning the pages of his book. Hikaru eyed him from across the room, watching Keito read a thick book, with foreign strokes for a title. He sighed dreamily and continued to gaze at Keito. Well, it was hard not to stare at Keito; well-shaped arms, flat stomach, ruffled hair, the long fingers turning the pages of the book…
“Ahem, ahem.” Hikaru didn’t acknowledge the small cough which came from the other chair across from him.
“AHEM.” Hikaru grunted, eyes still on Keito who was oblivious to his surroundings. Yabu glared at Keito and stood up from his chair, walking in front of Hikaru, batting his eyelashes.
“Ahem, Hikaru-kun? Hehe I mean, Hik-ka-CHAN!” Yabu flashed him his best cutesy smile and Hikaru broke off his concentration from Keito and blushed at the closeness between him and Yabu.
“Ano, Yabu-kun, you’re a little err…” Hikaru’s palms felt sweaty and Yabu seemed to be getting closer and closer…
“HIKKA-CHAN!” Hikaru whipped his head around, brushing Yabu’s face with his hair. He was looking up at Inoo who was looking as pretty as ever.
“Ne, let’s go out for a walk Hikka-chan! It’s getting a little crowded in here, don’t you think?” As Inoo spoke, he glanced at Yabu who narrowed his eyes.
“Sorry, Inoo-kun, but you interrupted a conversation…”
“Oh! I’m terribly sorry.” Inoo said with honeyed sincerity. But Hikaru wanted to take this chance to escape, in hopes of talking to Keito. But Yabu was still there, not arguing with Inoo, blocking both Hikaru’s view and only way out. He then was able to pry them apart but as he gloried in his triumph, he found himself being tackled by Inoo and Yabu.
“UWAA!” Miraculously, Keito was still deep into his book, eyes flying from page to page. Little did he know that someone else was keeping a close watch.
“NA-KA-YAN!” Yuto whirled around and his eyes widened. He ran over to the source of the sound and covered what was the sound-maker (a.k.a. the mouth).
“Shut up Yama-chan!” Yuto whispered urgently. Yamada looked up into Yuto’s face. It was dark and Yamada’s rounded eyes looked from his friend’s face to the little slat where Yuto was looking through.
“Mmwuffere oo ing?” Yamada’s voice was muffled because Yuto’s hand still covered his mouth.
“Ew!” Yuto snatched his hand away and wiped it on to his jeans.
“Gomen, but anyway, I was asking, what are you doing looking through that crack?” Yamada slid to the small space, and before Yuto could do anything, Yamada looked through and saw a perfect view of Keito reading his book and now, eating an apple.
“Yu-“
“SSH! Don’t say a thing.” Yamada blinked at his friend and sighed.
“Well, anyway, I was just going to ask-“
“No Yama-chan, I’m busy. Go ask Chii.” Yuto re-positioned himself in front of the crack and began spying once again. Yamada sighed and maneuvered his way out of the compartment. As he stepped out, he decided to take Yuto’s advice and went off to find Ryutaro and Chinen. However, as he stepped out into the hall…
“UWAA!” He had walked right smack into Daiki who was listening to his iPod.
“Ahh, gomen ne Yama-chan! “ Daiki smiled his innocent smile and Yamada couldn’t help but feel a child’s aura surrounding him.
“Aww, it’s okay Dai-chan!” He involuntarily patted Daiki’s head and get up, brushed himself off and went off down the hall, leaving a very confused Daiki scratching his head.
Yamada sprinted down the hallway, peeking quietly into the rooms where a few other Juniors hung out, searching for the two youngest members. He peeked into the last room, but still no Ryutaro or Chinen. He sighed and leaned on the door frame, pouting because he couldn’t find anyone who would talk with him.
“Yamada-kun?” Yamada looked up to see Shintaro looking down at him.
“Oh, Shin-chan! Have you seen Ryu-kun or Chii?” Shintaro tapped his lower lip and then snapped his fingers.
“Yeah! Last I saw them; Chii was dragging nii-chan to the ice cream store, just downstairs! He was saying something about not spending enough time…” Then a frown appeared on his small face and he shrugged and smiled down at Yamada who was hitting his head on to the door frame.
“Err, Yamada-kun. Daijobu desu ka?” Yamada stopped and then stood up.
“Iie. I’m fine Shin-chan, I’ll see you later.” He gave Shintaro a poke on the nose before turning back into the hallway and making his way back to the main room. He dragged his feet along the carpet floor, his head down and hands jammed into his pockets. He turned the corner and BAM!
“Uwaa, sumimasen, I keep bumping into people today.” Yamada scratched the back of head, head still down.
“Ahh, it’s okay. I was too into my book...” Yamada looked up and saw Keito rubbing his nose. He stared at him for a little while.
“Err, Yama-chan? Yoo-hoo?” Keito waved his hands in front of Yamada’s face. Then, he lightly pinched his cheek.
“Oi, Yama-chan!” Yamada blinked and his eyes widened to see Keito’s delicate fingers on his cheek. He blushed and clumsily slapped Keito’s hand away. He rubbed his cheek and peeked at Keito who was grinning down at him.
“What are you looking at?!” Keito giggled and helped Yamada to his feet.
“Nothing, it’s just your face is so kawaii when it’s pink!” Yamada felt even more blush creep into his cheeks and hurried to think of an excuse.
“W-Well it’s just because….because….because you pinched my cheeks, so it turned raw, and and and…yeah.” Yamada said hastily and Keito looked at him carefully.
“Is something wrong Yama-chan? You can tell me if you want.” Keito smiled and Yamada fought hard to keep the blush away from his cheeks.
“Ah, it’s okay. I’ll be interrupting your reading time ne.” Yamada looked down at his feet and was just about to walk away when he felt a gentle but firm hand on his shoulder.
“It’s okay, my eyes were starting to hurt anyway. I’m all ears now!” Yamada couldn’t help but to chuckle a little at Keito’s dorky remark and looked up to see a small amount of distance between his face and Keito’s. He couldn’t help but to sneak a glance at that cute mole underneath his eye.
“Hai! Well, I really just want to hang out with someone, so I thought of Hikaru but then Inoo and Yabu got to him first, then I thought of Yuto but he was already occupied, and then he suggested I go to Ryutaro or Chii, but Shin-chan told me they went to go get ice cream together and Daiki’s busy.” Yamada pouted and Keito took pity on the boy.
“Well, what about Takaki?” He suggested.
“We’re going out later already. We’re eating strawberry shortcake together. But it’s his turn for the photoshoot ne. I wasn’t allowed to watch, the photographer kicked me out. Something about strawberries being too sticky…” Keito laughed lightly.
“So you were the one who took out the bowl of strawberries! I was looking for them!” Yamada smiled guiltily and shrugged.
“Hehe…” Yamada was enjoying talking to Keito and Keito was a great listener.
“OH! Keito-kun! Wanna hang out with me? Pretty pleeeease?” Yamada did his best Chii imitation and Keito burst out laughing.
“Okay okay, but promise me you’ll never do that again!” Yamada stuck his tongue out at Keito and swung his arm over Keito’s shoulder, standing on his tiptoes because Keito was 4 inches taller.
“Are you hinting for a piggyback?” Keito asked, grinning.
“Well, Hikka-chan told me you were strong…” Keito patted his arms and nodded.
“Yes well, ahem, I’m pretty well-built if I do say so myself.” Yamada smirked.
“Pfft, you look strong but are you really strong?” Keito sensed the challenge in his voice.
“Well I think I’m pretty strong. You care to prove me wrong?”
“Fine! I challenge you to an arm wrestling match!” Keito grabbed a nearby chair and sat himself down on one of the tables.
“Bring it!” And so, Yamada sat down opposite of Keito and rolled his sleeves up. Keito had exclaimed that it was too hot in the room and there wasn’t much of a breeze, so he removed his shirt, and sat in his jeans and a black wife-beater. Yamada’s breath got caught in his throat for a split second and then he gulped. Keito’s arms were well-built and he blew out, resting his elbow on to the table and a neutral expression on his face.
“HAI!” Keito nodded and held Yamada’s hand. He felt a small tingle and Yamada gulped again.
“Okay, on the count of three…”
“One…”
“Two…”
“THREE!” And off they went, Yamada holding on to his chair for extra balance, Keito grabbing on to the table so he wouldn’t slip. It seemed to go on forever, first leaning this way, and then leaning the other until at last…
“WOO!” Yamada rubbed his knuckles while Keito was smiling at him.
“Kawaii, you’re face is all red now!” Yamada blushed this time, but it was masked by the redness surrounding his face.
“Hey, I wasn’t ready you know…” Keito scoffed.
“Excuses!”
“Fine, I challenge you to a re-match!” Keito, having enjoyed the first match accepted with no hesitation. Little did he know, Yamada had another intention aside from winning.
