And so it starts...

Well, after a month of my mommy dearest behaving, the real her came out of the box for a minute last night. We were all at the table eating supper and D-man (the 5 yr old) said something about halloween. Mom, being a jehovah's witness, does not do any holiday, and despises halloween above all else. She starts telling D-man how he is worshiping demons when he goes trick or treating. D being the consummate 5 year old looks at her with his big blue eyes and says "nuh uh Mema, we're gettin' candy!" Then she starts looking up scriptures and quoting them to him. I finally told her to just leave him alone. Then she starts in on me and how I believe in all this crap and it's not her fault that I turned my back on everything that she taught me (yes, I used to be one too)and that I need to start teaching the kids the "truth" and not exposing them to demonic stuff like HP and LOTR. And that if I had any of that kind of stuff in her house it was to be taken out now. She just knows I've got something in the house that's possessed because she hasn't been able to get a good nights sleep in like a year!? So we fussed at each other over supper and ended up not speaking for about an hour or so. I understand that it's her house, and I know she doesn't do the holidays, and because of that, I don't bring anything into the house related to those days. If we have birthday parties (she doesn't do those either) they are outside of the home like at a park or something. We don't even bring the leftover cake home. The boys' halloween costumes stay in the garage, not in the house (the candy they get, she has NO TROUBLE helping them eat by the way) I try to be respectful of her beliefs and all, but she is always trying to force her religion on me. Yes, I was brought up in that religion, but now that I've gotten older, I would rather choose for myself and not go to her church just because of some family obligation. Not to mention the fact that I've been kicked out of that church. I was "disfellowshiped" when D-man was tiny, because I got pregnant then got married. Now no-one who goes there is allowed (yes I said allowed) to speak to me. My own niece doesn't speak to me because of it. I remember very clearly when I was in grade school (K-5th grade) not being allowed to take part in birthday parties, Christmas parties, halloween parties, or valentine's parties at school. Mom would either come and pick me up early or I would have to go to the library during that time period. That is not how I want my boys to remember growing up. I don't want them to feel like they are outcasts or different from the other kids.

Sorry this entry was so long. Just had to rant a little bit. If ya got this far, thanks, if ya didn't oh well. I'll try to update happier things later on.
