User Icons BS
The lovely kittiliscious wanted new icons and our helpful friends directed her to some forums where people make them and ask you to credit them when you use them. I'm not lurking through these forums more than a couple minutes before I realize I'm pissed off. Thing is, most of these people didn't make the image themselves or take the photograph! What the hell?! I'm apparently suppose to credit the schmo who took someone else's work (often copy-written) and didn't credit them and shrunk it down in Photoshop? As a photographer I'm offended. I love that people use the photos I take of them and make them into user icons for MySpace, LJ, whatever, and I don't expect to be credited and you shouldn't either! If people post whole images in Flickr, or blogs then I make a request but jeez people, talk about some self-important bullcrap. Give me a break.
When you take the photo, draw the picture, or even make an animated gift that you came up with from scratch then I will happily credit you... as opposed to unhappily crediting you.
