In a world run by fools, the writer can only chronicle the doings of fools or their victims. And because the world is a cruel and heartless place, he will be accused of not taking his subject seriously. . . But laughter is a serious business, and comedy a weapon more dangerous than tragedy.Which is why tyrants treat it with caution... - Joe Orton
Oh yes! Date rape, rape by a spouse, rape by a partner you live with, rape by a partner you do not, violent rape, rape by a stranger, rape by a relative, rape by a guardian, rape of a minor... the list goes on and on.
Rape rape is, one gathers, when it occurs live on a reality television 'chat show' & it wins the viewers vote.
lol @ losing the game XD (of course, now i've lost as well. damn.)
and yeah, i've you've had "too many" sexual partners you can't be raped either, and anyways, no one will believe you. hadn't you heard?
things like these make me sick to my stomach because i can pretty much guarantee we all know AT LEAST one person who, if we had this conversation with them, would say something that would horrify you. they would be on the whoopi side of things. maybe not in this case, but in another one, a hypothetical one, something. and you won't ever forget it or be able to look them in the eye again.
Yup, in the Onehundred Village, we all know someone who's been raped, & someone who's like "nah, it wasn't rape rape".
There's a study (which I shall find the link to again - I have the pdf & it is rather big) that examined the cost of what I shall call for convenience 'grade A' crime. The big ones, the violent ones, the murders and suchlike. It found, with a huge margin, that rape is the most expensive crime.*
Perhaps the fear & horror gets condensed, for 'we' don't talk about it so much, & less so personally** & the great guffaws lug about their nonsense & spout it freely, unhurt, unhindered, & rarely challenged.
*They did not include the cumulative budgets of Polanski's films. ** Okay, so there are a LOT of books about wah wah my childhood, but those are like Mills & Boon gone horribly, horribly wrong. We could use them to make a giant cudgel?
"It wasn't rape rape." Oh dear god.

Can't help but wonder what the reaction would have been had he raped a 13 year old boy.

It's nice to know that there are people out there with an even blacker sense of humour than mine...

I like to use humour. Sticks & stones are more cumbersome.

I've long wanted that quote.
To become a point of laughter is the fear of those who rely on fear... ~ponderponderponder~

All are valid, but there are different rules, & only one of them has Laurie. Chatham House perhaps?
