Jade may have been aggressive, but Shilpa was passive-aggressive; Jade may have been a cruel bully, but Shilpa was a scheming instigator; Jade may be too direct, but Shilpa is too two-faced; Jade may have told Shilpa that she was stuck-up and needed to spend some time in slums, but Shilpa told Jade that she was common and needed elocution lessons. Neither understands the culture and upbringing of the other.
Both of them were at fault. Both of them could have ended the argument earlier than it did. Danielle made it worse with her actually xenophobic comments (ie, "Why don't you just fuck off home?"), and I think that's part of why Jade's been tarred and feathered for this. Jade is at fault to be certain, but I think of how unapologetically classist Shilpa is (Jade realised she said some inappropriate things, but Shilpa still believes she said and did nothing wrong), and I can't help but think she's in the wrong as well and that if she was light-skinned mixed-race like Jade then it would be both of them bearing the brunt of their argument.
The lack of which is, ironically, racist against Jade.
