This week was completely full. I didn't have any class on Wednesday so I worked a bit on my paper and then I went to the Sandaga market with some girls and got a sparkly top to go clubbing in. Then we met the others to go over to the stadium for the soccer game-concert sponsored by Plan, an NGO dedicated to registering unregistered children. Did you know 2 out of 3 children in West Africa are not registered at birth? The soccer game was a friendly match between Senegal and Norway. Senegal won 2-1. The best part was when the electricity went out in the last 5 minutes of the game. At first I was worries someone would grab me and drag me off in the dark but then the generator came on.
The concert was great. I got to see Lauryn Hill and Angelique Kidjo among others. Only a few people got pickpocketed. Overall it was a success.
Thursday we saw the holy city of Touba, meaning we drove for 5 hours to see a mosque and then turned around. I was busy being grumpy about having to wear a headscarf so I didn't appreciate it as much as I might have.
Friday we went to The Melissa to dance and drink Gazelle. Saturday AM we did Sandaga again and then I went home for Awa's 12th birthday party. Got to dance with the kids in the courtyard. By the time it wrapped up I was too tired to go out with Henri and his friends. Maybe next weekend.
