ArtEvDaMo2011 Day 3-7

Nov 08, 2011 00:11

Well, I have been doing something artistic the past several days.

Day 3 I spent working on redoing the red silk trim on my black wool gown. This meant taking off the trim basting stitches, then whip stitching the edges into place. I realized I really should just whip the stitches first, then remove the basting stitches to save time, but removing one line of the trim did open up the distance a bit, which I liked.

Day 4 was finishing the trim up, adding a line of red trim to each sleeve caps as I saw in a couple of the inspiration pics. I need to add another line of trim on the sleeves, and finish sewing down the last on the long skirt front, as well as add two lines around the hem in the future. I also put on a little bit of gold passing on the light gillyflower of my embroidery.

Day 5, Saturday, was off to San Jose/West Kingdom, which I wrote about on my other blog here. The creative part was actually doing some stitching for the shibori dye resist class, which ended up with a pretty silk hanky sample piece I now have. I rather like this way of doing decorative dyeing. I also took a class on Or nué, but not hands on, and sat on a class on making banners and pennons. I've got lots of ideas running through my brain now on various SCA related stuff, including the desire to cover my old tent (I need someplace to fly those pennons and banners), and covering my camp chair with my arms painted on.

Day 6 was a day of rest, but I did go and help my friend hsifeng fit her jacket muslin, so I will count that as doing some creative work. While I won't be making it up, she will, so I helped in her creation a little. Otherwise, nada.

Day 7, today I finished most of the light gillyflower goldwork outline with the passing thread. I've got a couple more small bits to add on to finish it, so no photos yet.

With all that, I am happy to say I've been creative every day for a week. But I will also admit, I've got that all too common problem of soo many ideas, too little time. Well, actually it isn't the time that is the problem, it is that I've got so many ideas of what I want to work on next, that they are fighting in my head and I don't know what to actually work on next. There is an Or nué idea, a gift idea or three, working on the camping chair idea, planning my tent recovering idea, doing up the middle portion of my embroidery project, and more.

I am supposed to be working on redoing my loose gown sleeves, but that's become even less of an interest right now. I think if I clean out the sewing room and pull out the fabric tomorrow I can actually work on that, but only because I don't want to get too cold this weekend at faire, which goes on rain or shine - and they are expecting rain.

Well, it's late, and time for sleep. More ramblings and possible photos next time.
