And the winner is...

Remember the help I asked for about a month ago?

Well, it's time for me to start working on this (among other projects), so I checked to see which one won. And by the most votes, the winner is...

Phyllis writing!!

I already know which fabrics I will be using; a matched silk damask, one in cream & gold, the other in purple & gold, that I have in stash for another project. But I've enough to do both that project and this one as the skirts do not appear to be that full. I just won't be able to wear it at a ren-faire, which is fine with me (that don't wear purple silk unless the monarch rule*).

I just have to figure out.. is this a kirtle, or a gown? I am leaning towards making it as a kirtle, so that I can later make and wear a fine velvet gown to go over it. In honor of the inspiration... this project will be known as the Phyllis kirtle.

And I think I know how to make the changed portion at the bottom, while making the skirt panels in a gore. In fact, I think I will do similar to what I did for the Irish Shinrone gown skirt in making the multiple panels.

But first... must make other items, including a new smock or two, and some shirts for my kids. Thankfully have the linen in my stash. Stash using will be a big priority for me this year.

* Not wearing purple silks actually comes into sumptuary law long after the 1520s - sometime in Elizabeth's reign. Henry VIII limited crimson and blue velvets to those ranked a Knight of the Garter or above. Also sumptuary laws were suspended for the Field of Cloth of Gold anyway, by the King's decree. And I still plan to buck that rule of absolutely no purple at faire for wearing a purple/violet wool sometime. See my Costume Myths page for more info and images.
