I had a hard time choosing whom I would do next for my actor profile. Mostly because it was team man flesh’s turn to go and I didn’t which one of male biases deserved it. So it kind of turned into this mental coin toss and here we are.
\(*o*)/
When I say I have a mouth fetish it’s really hard describe what I mean by that until you watch Narimiya in something with me in the room. I can’t tell you anything about what happened in the plot, but I sure as hell can tell you what was going on with Narimiya’s face and how that made me feel. Known for playing gangsters, psychos, and pimps; Narimiya is turning into that go to bad guy who turns out to have a big heart, a brilliant mind, or something completely opposite to his rough exterior. Narimiya pulls off this balance giving his character just enough to make you really feel something for him without being overwhelmingly biased towards him. Which is really difficult and requires not only great writing, but great facial expressions as well, and that is his biggest asset as an actor. So here are some of my favorite characters:
J - Bloody Monday
It’s difficult to play a psycho bent on destroy the world. I don’t care what anyone says it’s not easy to pretend to lose control and J is a character who yo yo’s between sanity and insanity. This wasn’t the first thing I’d seen Narimiya in but it was the character that made me really excited about him as an actor. He kept me on edge and honestly before the drama ended I was watching it more for him rather than the main lead.
Daichi Shinagawa - Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
A lighthearted change from his darker Bloody Monday persona this was my first encounter with Narimiya and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Daichi shows off Narimiya’s comedic skill and if there is one thing I like in my actors its range. Plus Daichi was just so freakin’ adorable with Hana!!
The Painter - Party wa Owatta
I didn’t pick this character because I like him, but he’s a good example of what I said before that Narimiya can play some pretty twisted characters that grow and have emotions of their own but never make you sympathetic to them. I won’t feel guilty that I’ve watched this story in Party wa Owatta at least 4 times while the rest of it only once. I partly blame him and I partly blame the awesome chemistry him and Riisa Naka have, but either way Narimiya is one of top tier favorite actors.
(Bonus smiley picture cause he really doesn't play nice guys enough)
So what's you're favorite Hiroki Narimiya character and more importantly do you find his mouth just as attractive as I do?!?!?!
