Daniel beat me at Rummikub last night.
But all joking aside, I have to say that right now, at this most quintessential moment...I am happy. In fact, I'm very damn well happy. It seems like such a long time ago when my worst problems were not getting L'Arc~en~Ciel tickets to the shows I wanted to go to (though you'll never hear me offend Morioka again)...and settling back into typical Alaskan life hasn't exactly been my Seventh Heaven. Today, though, things finally feel like they're starting to look up:
We've found some really nice apartments that might just be perfectly suited to our needs; the semester's almost over and I've got A+'s in both my classes; work is steady if still petty; and best of all, the Carlsons are flying me to see my mama for New Years. I've got no presents for anyone, but intend to whip up a huge batch of Italian struffoli instead -- it's an old family tradition that's been needing a poor college student to revive it.
I hope soon to get back into the swing of things -- it's been ages since I've indulged in real fangirling (though that may have something to do with Daniel's prejudice against *cough*hyde*cough*), or even some regular posting. At the same time, I feel like I'm starting to grow out of the need to vent my petty feelings to a computer...that's what Daniel's for, anyway. It's nice, in that sense, to have a family; he's been teaching me how to play the Wii, and I've introduced him to Rummikub (I have more stars than he does in Super Mario Galaxy, so win or no we're even). Things'll be even better when we have a place to ourselves, though, I think.
My Japanese prof is helping me get set up as a private translator...hopefully in the new year I'll have some publications to work on, maybe establish a reputation or client base within the next year...At any rate, I'm gonna have to keep myself busy as the temperature drops. There may be no such thing as global warming, but the thermometer has only started to read below zero this week. Normally, our daily high should be at -20F or -30F by now, but we're still hovering around 0F -- and it's frickin' freezing, Mr. Bigglesworth! Spoilt, we are! Snow-pansies!
Hmm....cold....rumbly tummy....pasta....
