Title: Path of Heaven
Fandoms: Gokusen. Kamen Rider Kabuto.
Pairings: Hayato/Ryu. Tendou/Kagami. Tendou/Ryu.
Rating: NC-17 (in later chapters).
Warnings: Sex. Violence. Character death. Spoilers for both Gokusen 2005 and Kamen Rider Kabuto. Especially Kabuto. (See, also, link in my Notes section below.)
Summary: "Seven years ago, on that day, because of a tiny speck that fell from space, I became alone. The city of Shibuya became a mountain of rubble. And in my heart, a tiny hole was opened. But that speck from space wasn't all that came down."
Notes: This is the Gokusen 2005 / Kamen Rider Kabuto crossover fic that I've been wanting to write for about four years. It's not necessary for you to have seen both Gokusen 2005 and Kamen Rider Kabuto to understand this. One or the other will do. However, I will be following both shows very closely, so you'll get more enjoyment out of this fic if you watch both shows. Prologue: Late 2006
“Seven years ago, on that day, because of a tiny speck that fell from space, I became alone. The city of Shibuya became a mountain of rubble. And in my heart, a tiny hole was opened. But that speck from space wasn't all that came down.”
Tendou exhaled slowly as he stood in front of his former classmate. The red and black and silver armor that coated his body like a second skin moved with him as he raised his hand to the Kabuto Zecter on his belt, pressing down the three buttons in succession. The mechanical voice of the Zecter echoed as each metal button was released, “One. Two. Three.” Tendou moved his hand to the protruding horn handle of the Zecter, preparing to attack, but as he watched the man in front of him, auburn hair caressing the pale, sweaty skin of his face, breath shallow and faltering, chocolate brown eyes determined and unafraid, Tendou hesitated.
Maybe Ryu could fight this on his own.
“Do it, Tendou,” Ryu said calmly, his voice raspy and quiet.
He paused another moment as his resolve continued to waiver.
“Kabuto!” Hayato was running toward them fast and his voice and his footsteps echoed throughout the empty parking garage. Behind his mask, Tendou closed his eyes, searching his mind for an answer. One way or another, he needed to end this.
A hard punch to his masked face made him stumble back and brought him out of his thoughts. When he opened his eyes, it was no longer Ryu before him, but the Worm Ryu had become. The bug-like alien form with green, leathery skin shouted at him with Ryu's voice, “Tendou!” and then whispered, “Sou-chan, please.”
It was then that Tendou knew what to do. He pushed the side of the zecter into the center with his left hand and grasped the zecter handle with his right, flicking it quickly to the left. A surge of power raced from the belt and through his suit, penetrating deep into his muscles.
“Rider Kick,” he called and his deep voice seemed to silence Hayato's panicked shouts, pleading with him to stop. He moved the Zecter handle back to it's original position and the Zecter's voice mimicked his earlier call. He jumped and spun in the air, bringing his booted foot down harshly across the Worm's chest. The power radiated from his leg and foot and as he made contact, there was a large explosion, which engulfed the area around them with smoke and flame.
Hayato's heart sank and he slowed as he neared the scene. When the smoke cleared, he could see Ryu - not the Worm, but Ryu - crumpled over against the gray concrete wall. He wasn't moving.
“Ryu!” he screamed, rushing to his friend. He pulled Ryu up against his chest and the form in his arms groaned in pain. “Fuck! Tendou!”
Tendou turned around, having already undone his transformation, and looked down at Hayato. The man was glaring up at him angrily, but there was also a hint of desperation in his eyes. Hayato wanted his help, but Tendou knew the other man was far too proud to actually ask for it. He didn't know if there was anything he could do to help, anyway, other than call for an ambulance. He looked to Ryu, then, and his heart clenched. Ryu's body was limp against Hayato. He was conscious, but only just, and his breathing sounded faint and pained. As his gaze washed over Ryu, the green and silver flash of a necklace caught Tendou's eye. He approached Ryu and crouched down before him, reaching out with his hand and grasping the jeweled crescent shape of the pendant.
“Where did he get this?” he asked Hayato.
“I got it for him. They said it could detect when there was a Worm nearby.”
Tendou's eyes narrowed and he gripped the necklace, yanking it off of Ryu's neck. He took his cell phone from the pocket of his jacket and tossed it to Hayato, who fumbled to catch it. Tendou stood and started walking away.
“Where are you going?!”
“Get him to a hospital.”
Hayato was tempted to get up and follow Tendou, if only to punch him a few times, but a quiet whimper from Ryu brought Hayato's attention fully to the man in his arms.
“Shit. Okay, Ryu. Just... god... please don't die, okay?”
He hurried and called for an ambulance and while he waited for help to arrive, Hayato held Ryu, rocking him slightly, hoping to ease the pain and the fear a little.
Memories of seven years earlier filled his mind and he shuddered. This wasn't the first time he had held Ryu's body in his arms like this. The terrifying events of that day flashed through his mind like the nightmares that often disturbed his sleep. But the thing that rang loudest in his head at that moment was his mother's voice and the promise he had made to her that day.
Hayato looked down Ryu's pale face and thin, nearly lifeless, form and he cried, knowing he had broken his promise.
“I'm sorry, Mom,” Hayato whispered as sirens filled the air. “I'm sorry.”
