Since I have a test I should be studying for so I don't fail it later today, it's obviously a good time to be bitching about fansubs.
TV-Nihon, the group the subs pretty much all of the Kamen Rider stuff, is my favorite subbing group. In any fandom. In fact, they're the only subbing group that I actually don't hate with a fiery passion. They're not perfect. Their leaders tend to be kinda asshole-ish to others in the forums, and they do put a "Don't upload to streaming sites" message on their videos, but they don't really enforce it. They don't hide their videos. They don't make you join a special community or forum in order to download their stuff.
Basically, they're not the raging cunty bitches that most of the subbers in the JE and Jdrama communities are.
So, yeah, I like TV-Nihon. I trust their subs for the most part. There are some things that bother me. They don't translate all "set" phrases, but for the most part, if there's something they're not gonna translate, they make a note about it's meaning in the first occurance of the phrase. Like Momo-chan's "Ore Sanjou" in Den-Ou.
Apparently, though, this bothers other people. And new groups have formed to sub Kamen Rider stuff.
There are atleast four groups subbing Kamen Rider Double. This? IS ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY.
But "Order of Zeronos" subbing group finished episode four of Double before TV-Nihon, so I downloaded that and am currently watching it.
Not even to the opening theme song and I already hate their subs. First of all, they write Phillip's name as "Philippe." Which looks like it's French and I'd pronounce that with the second 'i' being a long vowel.
There's also a line in which Phillip says, quite clearly, "Waga... kazoku..." "Waga" means "my," "kazoku" means "family." The subs say "Household... Money..."
"Money"?! Really? Did these people not pass first year Japanese?
Dear Subbing Groups,
If you're going to bitch about the subs of other groups and then sub the shows yourself, please make sure you have a basic grasp of the Japanese language have better subs than the group you're trying to compete with.
No love,

I've seen some groups complain that TV-Nihon leaves honorifics in the subs untranslated. But I don't like it when people try to translate these. Because the nuances of honorifics can't really be converted into English. Like, in Den-Ou, all the imajin had nicknames. When Ryuutaros calles Urataros "Kame-chan," it wouldn't be the same as just "Kame" or if they had translated it to "Turtle." Same with him being called Ryuu-chan or Ryuuta. So I think honorifics need to be left untranslated. It would be helpful and awesome if subbing groups would attach a little note to the video (first episode only) of what these honorifics mean, though.
*sigh* So I will watch the rest of this crappy sub and then delete it and wait for TV-Nihon's release.
And then I will fail my test today. T_____T
