I need money and am selling some of my Japanese study materials. I'll offer them to you guys first before I spam comms with it. No pictures yet because I'm lazy, but just ask if you need them.
Oxford Starter Japanese Dictionary
Condition: Okay. I've used this a lot and somewhere along the way, I stopped being anal retentive about keeping it in pristine condition, so there's a bit of wear on the cover. The pages themselves are in excellent shape with no writing, tears, or bends.
List price: $15.95
My price: $6
About the book: It's both J-E and E-J. The Japanese is in kanji/kana and arranged in aiueo order. It's a very good dictionary for beginners.
The Kodansha Kanji Learner's Dictionary
Condition: Very Good. Some wear. One of the pages has a tear. One corner is a little bent. No writing on pages.
List price: $39.95
My price: $20.00
About the book: If I didn't have to buy a different kanji dictionary for a class, I would keep this one. It's not perfect. It only has about 2,200 kanji entries. And it's arranged using the Halpern system, which is not used in any other kanji dictionary. But each kanji entry gives stroke order, definition(s), pronunciation(s), and a shit-ton of compounds. For years, this was my kanji bible and I would recommend it to anyone who is learning Japanese, but especially to beginners.
Making Sense of Japanese: What the Textbooks Don't Tell You
Condition: Brand New. Read once, but in perfect condition.
List price: $16.00
My price: $10.00
About the book. It's basically a bunch of essays explaining some of the more confusing aspects of Japanese grammar. It actually made the whole は vs が particle thing make sense to me and for that, it's worth its weight in gold.
Yookoso!: An Invitation to Contemporary Japanese (1st edition)
Condition: Eh, pretty good. Hardcover. The spine is a bit loose (though not anywhere close to falling apart) and there's pencil writing on a few pages.
List price: ??? 3rd edition is going for ~$120
My price: $10
About the book: It's a textbook (volume 1 of 2). Which I haven't used, so I can't say too much about it. Many universities rely on this series. Things look to be explained pretty well in the book. It uses some bizarre Yookoso!-only version of romanizations (I mean, look at the title!), but it teaches hiragana and katakana in the first chapter, so it doesn't force you to rely on crappy roomaji.
Yookoso!: Continuing with Contemporary Japanese (2nd edition)
Condition: Great. Harcover. No writing, tears, bends. Cover is in great condition, but has some price stickers and such on it. I'm sure they could be removed if you really wanted.
List price: ??? 3rd edition is going for ~$120
My price: $12
About the book: See above. It's volume 2 of the series. As far as I know, there is no volume three.
Shipping is not included in the price. The two Yookoso! books are heavy, so shipping will be a little higher. I combine shipping. I ship everywhere. If you have me listed on your F-list and live in the U.S., I will accept cash AT YOUR OWN RISK, but otherwise, I want Paypal. Also, go buy my Johnny's and anime/manga stuff over at
inpitchdark!!!
I'll leave this up for a day or two, then copy it to my selling journal and spam the comms with it. :D
In other news, my Japanese class this semester IS GOING TO EAT ME ALIVE. *cries*
