Probably unsurprisingly, someone actually defriended me since I've posted my previous post.
Actually, no. I am surprised. Because it was someone who I respected and, though she's a hardcore Jin fan, I thought she was a little more accepting of differing opinions.
But I kinda asked for it, I guess.
I'm not taking the other post down. I still very much think the same things, but I think I should clarify... I would've made the same post about Kame. Or Yamapi. Or any JE kid whose fans go batshit and irrational over.
Look, it's okay to be crazy over and love your choice of idol. It's okay to defend him when other people say bad things about him. But don't worship him to the point where you don't even see his flaws.
I love Kame and Jin because they love each other because of their flaws. Kame is a bit awkward and a crappy dresser and he's not that attractive from certain angles or under certain lights. He tries too hard and sometimes fails too hard. Jin is an arrogant prick who, a lot of the time, can't be bothered to even attempt to look interested in what he's doing. He's mean to his coworkers and sometimes he can be a bit slow on the uptake.
But I still love these two idols enough to STILL BE IN THIS SHITTY FANDOM NEARLY FOUR YEARS LATER. I still love them enough to buy their CDs and DVDs and magazines and obsessively download all their TV appearances and radio shows. Because I follow KAT-TUN for Kame and Jin. I like the other guys except Junno well enough, but I'm in it for the K and the A.
So am I less of a fan because I think they're not perfect? Because I'm not going to go running to their rescue or get indignant when other fans say bad things about them?
It sucks that Jin (and Kame and probably some of the others) got sick. I genuinely feel sorry for him/them and hope they all have at least a little time to rest and get healthy again. But you know what? THEY'RE HUMAN. GET OVER IT.
Ok. I'm done with this topic now. I'm a bit hurt to have lost an LJ friend over this, but I asked for it and I still stand by my other post.
