So there's been a little turmoil lately about me being able to afford to stay in the Philadelphia area this summer. Then it occurred to me, "hey - why don't I try to find a paid internship in the area?" Or, hell, even an unpaid one.
There are surprisingly a lot of them. Getting them is another matter, but it can't hurt to at least apply... there are a few I really am interested in:
-Drug metabolism research at Merck - HELLO EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO HAVE A CAREER IN
-Some neuroscience thing at AstraZeneca - I don't think I really qualify all that much but it's worth applying for, the requirements were kinda vague... it'd be interesting at least
-QA/Analytical at Endo Pharmaceuticals - would be pretty interesting, probably mostly just looking at NMR/mass/IR specs and making sure there's no unreacted benzene in the product so nobody dies/gets cancer/sues them
-Some random water science thing, it sounds interesting and I qualify... probably pretty competitive because it's through the ACS (american chemical society), though. Again, worth applying for just to see if I can get it...
And that's just in a couple hours of searching. There was one that sounded PERFECT for GlaxoSmithKline, structural chemistry + CADD pharmaceutical development, but I can't apply for that until next summer because the minimum is rising senior undergrad.
Hopefully it'll pan out... better than working at Lowe's, that's for sure.
