I met with State Farm and my contractor.
Basically we will start with ripping out the kitchen floors and cabinets to get to the offending plumbing leak, leaving no kitchen to speak of. Also the same will happen in the bathroom. This will do away with my 1950's pink/blue. I do get to keep my super deep, baby blue, 1950's tub. The crappy sink/fake oak cabinet that does not go with the bathroom will have to go too. I am a big fan of keeping the 50's feel but with updated.
Since the house will be unlivable for a bit they will be sending me and mine to a hotel/suite sort of thing. Since my contractor will be busy really soon but he had me on his radar since August, he will fit me in and get it done. This means starting as soon as I get a check and get my mortgage holder to co-endorse stuff.
It will be like moving sort of because I don't want to have my contractor's guys moving some of my delicates around the house. There will probably be cutting into my wood floors in the living room, requiring refinishing and such of contiguous wood floors.
I foresee a big headache that might extend into workshops but in the end I will have a better home for the short bit of inconvenience.
I am sure it will be more than a bit inconvenient but more than worth it. Thank goodness for renewed vacation time.
