Sock Monsters

You know, I really, really enjoy making these! Can you tell? I've made 19, working on my 20th one. Out of those, 1 I am keeping because it has come on an adventure and it would be a bit gross to sell it. I was the second I'd made. :)
The rest, well, they can go to good homes. But I'm not posting this to pimp my wares, no.

I'm posting this because they make me happy. They do. I found a book in the library, took it home and converted my first pair into a really AWFUL bad sock monster. It probably took me 2 days in total. I had to read and reference the pattern constantly.
Now? Now I'm designing my own - I've even embroidered! Kinda. That's not the point, though. No, that is. I'm coming up with new patterns, new designs, and improving and altering old ones. I've learned all sorts of new techniques, I can use a sewing machine, properly. I can pin fabric so that the stripes align. I'm a whiz at sewing on buttons, and at creating even blanket stitch.

I'm typing this not to boast, or show off, but because I am pleased, and proud. I've learned a new, useful skill. I have found real joy in the creation, in a field I never thought I'd be interested in. Sewing "wasn't my thing". Not any more!
It's also given me something to DO over the holiday - even if I don't go outside, I'm still happy if I've spent the day making a sock monster. This is a big deal for me.

Not all of them are perfect, but, especially with my recent ones, each one has meaning to me as the one I did well with such and such a stitch, or I tried a new facial expression, or a completely out-there design. Not every monster is successful, but I learned from those mistakes. Mostly.

These are really fun, and I hope I still have the time, when I'm a student, to carry on making them.
Yeah, that's it, really. Not always lots of positive posts, but here's one. :)

sock monsters, creativity, happy, not ranting, fun
