choice albums, bro

I love music, and for the past year or so I hadn't liked much of the new music that had been hitting my ears. This could be my fault for not going out and finding it, or just a lack of good stuff being released (argh, so much retro yelling, loud music). This has reversed for me now with a few albums that i've stumbled upon in the first few months of this year.

Most of the linked websites have song samples -

Stars - Set Yourself On Fire

* Melodic Indie Pop from Canada. Up and downbeat love songs.
# Your Ex-Lover Is Dead, One More Night, Set Yourself On Fire.

Augie March - Moo, You Bloody Choir

* A great album from start to finish, before listening to this, I wasn't sure if they'd ever top Sunset Studies, but as I listen to it more it's pretty damn close. There are some songs on this album that I keep listening to repeatedly once I get to the end of it. This makes listening to the album in full, a long and drawn out process.
# Mother Greer, Bottle Baby (listen here), One Crowded Hour

Because of Ghosts - No More Reason, No More Doubt (Selected Recordings 2002-2004)

* Collection of early eps from a new Australian band, similar to Dirty Three. Listen with headphones.
# The Stars Did Wander, Prun Sunk, You Fool (Your House Is Built on a Frozen Lake)

Fourth Floor Collapse - Books With Broken Spines

* If you read this journal, you've probably heard me bang on about these guys. This album is still growing on me and the sound production is clean, but just doesn't seem to capture them right. It's hard for me not to like anything they put out though.
# Spin The Wheel, Drink 'Til You Drown, Scaling Walls

The Whitlams - Little Cloud

* Tim Freedman has been around for a while, this time he surprises with a double album in which alot of the songs do not revolve around the piano.
# Beauty In Me, Fancy Lover, Keep the Light On (listen here) - really more of album than a handful of standout tracks

I'm also going through obsession with The Cure, but we don't discuss that here.

Bring on the new Something For Kate and Bluebottle Kiss. :D
