I VOTED TODAY! It was exciting. I am starting to get really nervous though about the results of the election. I dont know what I'll do if Bush is re-elected. I talked to my dad last night and he thinks that Bush is going to win by a landslide. Maybe move to Canada. This election seemed so simple, but when it came down to it, it really isnt. I had two theories running through my head for the last couple of nights that were frustrating me. and when i tell them they will probably frustrate you as well. here they are
1. NADER :I dont like how divided the country is. Why is there only really two parties? Sure there is Nader, but do you think he is really going to get that much support this election? I doubt it. I dont really agree with his ideals, but I like the idea that there is a third option. I hate Bush. But I really dont love Kerry at the same time. I want this country to move toward more options. I support the idea of having other options whether or not i really agree with what Nader stands for. Honestly I havent paid much attention to him over the years and dont really know where he stand on everything. All i really know is that he is anti-war. I am anti-war. Maybe i should vote for Nader to show my support for anti-war movements. This was a very real option in my mind.
2. KERRY: a)I live in Utah...there is no doubt in my mind that Bush is going to win this state. He never even had to campain here. He already knows he has it, and Kerry already knows that he doesnt have a chance. So are either candidates really fighting for my vote? no. they arent. I think that every state should be a swing state. Then the candidates would really have to make promises that benefit the majority of the country, not the majority of certain states that "swing" the vote in one way or the other.
b)When it comes down to it, you really do have to pick between the lesser of two evils between Bush and Kerry. But I am much more of a liberal than a conservative. Kerry represents me more that Bush does. And frankly I think Bush is an idiot. So my vote was definately not going in that direction.
In the end I voted for Kerry. Didnt mean to worry any of you with my reasoning. I couldnt vote for Nader in this election. It was too important to me to get Bush out of office. But in the future, I hope others join me in my quest to have more options and have my vote count even in Utah. After all, last election we did vote for a democrat running for congress. Jim Matheson. So i guess anything is possible. And i want everyone to know that there is a substantial number of democrats in utah.
Ok. i am done ranting.
