I received an email yesterday from my mother; she's a big fan of forwardings (most of them being of the "cheer up! God loves you!" variety.) This one was quite different, containing the following ( text and images: )
Have you read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? This reminds me of this room which Zaphod was put in. It is designed to drive the victim completely mad, because it shows you the ENTIRE universe, and contains a tiny microscopic dot on top of a tiny microscopic dot, with an arrow pointing that says "You are here." The victim is supposed to go mad upon grasping how enormously insignificant they truly are. Instead, Zaphod saw how tiny he was, how huge the universe was, and realized that he was the most important thing in it.
Yep, I read that! And as I recall, in the next book it was explained that Zaphod had been in some pocket universe at the time, a dimension created expressly to keep him occupied and out of somebody else's hair; since it had been created to contain him, of course he was the most important person in it. And ohhhhh, Zaphod got mad when he heard that!
Ahem. That is cool, though. I really didn't know how big the planets were when compared to one another. Neat! Though I coulda done without the God bit, too. ;)
