Ohmigod, IT WORKED!
Remember that post I made two weeks ago, about Nazanin? The Iranian girl who defended herself and her niece against a pack of rapists, and gave one of them a fatal wound… and was sentenced to death for it, because in her misogynistic homeland, rape is always the woman’s fault. Nazanin’s not out of the woods yet; she’s still in prison, and there’s no telling what that lower court that her case was turned back to, will do to her now. But for the Supreme Court to overturn the sentence “on instructions from Ayatollah Shahroudi”, one of the many names and e-addresses that were provided to people in the campaign to save her… It worked!
Did my one little batch of emails make the difference? I sincerely doubt it. But a bucket is filled drop by drop, and this time everyone who wrote to protest and persuade, put enough drops in to… doggone it, how can I complete that metaphor without sounding like The Tick? Aw, nevermind that; this is the best news I’ve heard all day!
