I finally got my latest blood draw yesterday. The nephrologist or her office never sent the lab order, so I finally had to call them up & make them fax it to the lab.
So the blood has been drawn & I can stop analyzing the sodium content of every morsel of food I eat. I can eat whatever I want! I can eat raw baby carrots & not feel like I'm taking up space in my stomach that should be reserved for something salty.
I'm not sure when we'll get the lab results - by Wednesday, most likely - but I'm not expecting anything shocking, since this seems like a waste of time. Literally. I'm hoping that the results will at least show that my kidney function hasn't continued to decline in the 6 weeks since we discovered the problem.
So ... creatinine of less than 1.40 would be fabulous, though unlikely. That would have me back where I was in August 2013.
Creatinine between 1.40 and 1.50 would be an improvement over December, but still worse than last August. Maybe going to continue in that good direction.
Creatinine between 1.50 and 1.60 would mean I at least haven't been actively getting worse in the past 6 weeks.
Creatinine over 1.60 would be legitimate reason to freak out. It would seem to indicate that December's surprising lab results were an indication of a scary trend, that my kidneys are progressively getting worse & continuing to do so.
Regardless of the creatinine numbers, though, I don't know that the lab results will actually do anything to explain them.
When will we actually learn anything about why the kidney function got worse between August and December? I don't have high hopes on that score.
