I had a very nice day today. Hung out with Lisa, had an excellent brunch (including an omelette containing a cheese I'd never heard of before: fiscalini, which is kinda like parmesan, but which Lisa and I insisted should be a petite financial plan, based on the actual morphemes in the word), watched a Studio Ghibli film called I Can Hear the Ocean. I had hoped to watch a Miyazaki film, looking forward to that trademark childlike sense of wonder, but this was by some other Studio Ghibli guy, and it was mostly frustrating and annoying, as its central characters were a lying, manipulating, selfish, spoiled brat ... and the boy who thinks she's neat. The only part of the movie I really enjoyed was when the rotten girl slapped the boy across the face for no reason ... and he slapped her back. I bounced on Lisa's couch and cried, "Hit her again!" Sadly, he did not hit her again. Maybe if she had been somehow punished by the end of the movie I would have been happy, but instead she ended up with the guy who put up with all her shit, and the music seemed to indicate that I should think this was romantic. Bah!
Lisa and I made tentative plans to go hiking next weekend up behind the Claremont Hotel, instead of sitting in the dark and watching tv as usual. I suggested that we get brunch at Rick and Ann's first, since it's right there by the Claremont. So next weekend should be fun!
I've been feeling particularly fond of Lisa lately. She's always there for me, and yet she also points out when she thinks I'm wrong about something. She's an excellent friend.
I also swung by the library today to return a book and pick up some others. I've got The Fellowship of the Ring on audio, which should be fun, and a few random YA books. I plan to read a lot tomorrow.
Then tonight Shannon and I bought our weekly groceries, with no terribly exciting developments. Then we came home and had dinner while watching this week's episode of "Doctor Who," which I liked a lot. I miss David Tennant, but I think I'm going to like this new Doctor, as well. And the new companion, too. She rocks.
