DELAWAREEEE

I took a trip with my mom down to Delaware, Thurs-Sat, and now...I'm gonna recap.

*Left Thursday morning with the GPS our neighbor let us borrow (amazing, I NEED one) on the dash and ready to go.

*Took about 7.5 hours to get from Ashburnham to Newark, should have taken a lot less, but George Washington Bridge traffic sucks. hard.  I also felt like the volume of cars on the roads after you get through connecticut is so much higher, which I guess is part of the reason why I saw about 14 accidents on the way down and back.

* Got to Newark at 5ish, checked into our super sketchy hotel (thank god we only stayed there one night) and then went to check out a potential house to live in

*Wasn't feelin the house.

*Got some dinner

*Went back to aforementioned sketchy hotel and went to bed so I could get up bright and early.

*Friday morning - checked out of our sketchy hotel and went to UD

*Met with the director of the Historic Preservation program, then met with 6 students in the program...got a lot of good info from them, and I was super relieved because they were all really nice and down to earth, and working on cool-sounding research projects.

* Took a short tour of the really really nice campus w/ Historic Pres director/professor...got coffie at the Central Perk (well, I got a hot chocolate but whatever)

*Met with Material Culture/Winterthur Director/Museum Studies Prof who just happened to go to the same grade school as my mom and lived two streets away from her growing up...RANDOM. He was really nice.

*Had lunch with two students in the program.

*Went to the Material Culture Lab to take a tour, after finding out that I received my first official UDel parking ticket.

*Lab was really cool, then went to the bookstore and got me some sweatpants.

*Went to the Urban Affairs main office, met some more peeps, filled out reimbursement forms for the trip, made sure our hotel plans where all set, and got some good dinner recommendations

*Went and checked into our MUCH NICER hotel room at the Mariott which was paid for by the Urban Affairs program :)

*Hung out there for a while, then my mom and I went to check out the shops on Main St, which runs through the UD campus. Has a bunch of restauraunts and shops.

*Ate at the Iron Hill Brewery which was amazing. I had awesome lasagna and some of their in-house brewed beer (also awesome)

*Walk out of the restauraunt and see a COLDSTONE! ON CAMPUS! I was very happy. bought my mom and I ice cream which we enjoyed back at the hotel, right before our very long, very competitive game of spit. It ended in a draw.

*Saturday - woke up early and went down to the hotel restauraunt to have bfast (also paid for by the UAPP dept) with a bunch of people who I think were there for the Women's Olympic Handball meet thingy that was happening that weekend.

*Checked out of the hotel and headed to another potential place to live.

*Met the girls there and reallly liked it, and they sent me a copy of the lease today - sooooo I think I def have a place to live down there in August which is a freakin RELIEF! nice to get it out of the way. :)  It's in a nice place, 3 miles from campus and totally renovated inside.  4 bedrooms so I'll either have 2 or 3 other roommates when I move in, they hadnt figured that out yet. And they have a doberman named annie who is really cute.

*Headed home after that, once again - GW Bridge = SUCKTASTIC. not a bad drive though

*I drove the whole way down, and most of the way back - I let my mom drive the last two hours...annnnddd....SHE GOT PULLED OVER an hour into driving. haha.

*got back to ashburnham around 7.

It was such a good trip. The campus is SO nice, and it seems like there's a lot to do around there, not that I think I'll have much of a social life when I'm back in school. And the people are really nice. My anxiety level is much lower now, and I think that's the most important thing. So I'm definitely looking forward to the start of the semester. :)
