flashmob -- action on ocean beach, 11th nov
Dear Friends,
I need your bodies. And your friends¹ bodies. Please come to San Francisco and lie down in the sand on the beach with me (and about 1,000 others) on November 11 just four days after The Election.
No matter how the voting turns out, when the dust settles all of us who think America has been flying in exactly the wrong direction ever since the present administration took power are going to want to communicate to our elected leaders exactly what we think ought to happen next. Also, we¹re going to want
to have a little fun -- and I think I¹ve got just the thing.
If this thing works out the way I like to imagine, you might just be able to show your grandkids the front page of the post-election Sunday newspaper from just about every city in the entire country, and say, ³November, 2006. We were turning this country back around, and I was right there in the thick of it! That one right there, yeah, that oneŠ that was me!²
Members of the Oakland, California chapter of World Can¹t Wait (www.worldcantwait.org ) have reserved a helicopter and pilot for one hour on the morning of Saturday, November 11. At 11 a.m. (eleven-eleven-eleven) it will be hovering in the sky over Ocean
Beach at the western edge of San Francisco (the very site of the original Burning Man celebrations) with two photographers on board.
Here¹s what they¹ll see down below: Approximately 1,111 of the Bay Area¹s finest (including me including you?) lying in the sand on the edge of the Pacific. We¹ll be arranged so that our bodies form letters that are 100 feet tall and stretch across the sand for at least 400 feet to spell:
I M P E A C H
We¹ll lie still for ten minutes (or maybe eleven), enough time for the folks in the helicopter to take shots with our message in the foreground, with
>> Golden Gate Park, the Golden Gate Bridge, the City, and the whole Bay Area in the background. The way I imagine it, there¹ll be other helicopters there too, sent by the national news media. They won¹t want to miss out on what the good and long-suffering people of the San Francisco Bay Area have to say about the election results. And they¹ll just love the presentation.
Please come down to the beach with me. And bring a few friends.
The details of this plan are fluid and change from day to day. We have created a website to keep things as organized as possible. For more details, for updates, and to TO CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION go to www.bodiescount.org . Also, I will be blogging about this event at beachimpeach.blogspot.com.
Please forward this to everyone you can in the Bay Area.
Thanks,
Brad Newsham
