Dear KimberKatie, age 5:
Don't grow up. Life can only go down from where you are. You're five years old, about to start kindergarten and learn, learn, learn. You'll make friends, you'll throw up at school, you'll think your teacher is an alien, and you'll even fall in love and date this person for one special weekend when you are 9 years old.
Stay young. Life only gets more complicated and depressing after this. You will learn that people let you down all the time. Your friends are special to you, and at 2 years old - your brother is still your friend. You want to marry your cousin, whom you think is the best thing since sliced bread. You will soon learn that he's not.
Savour your innocence, because it will soon die a fiery, fiery death. Right now you think everything is sunny and happy, and everybody loves animals like you do. This is not true. People torture and kill animals daily, some of them "in the name of science". You don't know this yet, but you soon will - and it will make your heart cry.
Hold tight to those around you. Your grandfather is your idol - and you want to be able to create like him. He will die 5 years from now of lung cancer that spreads over his body in a matter of months. It will be a quick, yet painful death - and it will tear you apart to watch it. One month after this, your beloved Freddie crosses the Rainbow Bridge. DO NOT TURN 10! It will be the worst year of your life.
Until you are a teenager. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ADOLESCENCE. People will turn their backs on you, and everybody's identities will shift in your view. It's a tough time, and even though you will pull through - at times it will seem not worth the fight.
You definitely won't want to age into adulthood. Here you will discover that people are constantly disappointed in you, and judge every thing you do. You will fall in love with a career choice, but it won't last. Nothing in your life will last. You are full of great ideas, but ideas sprout wings and fly away from you. As will people. You will not be able to be completely happy - either with yourself, or with anybody around you.
I warn you: DO NOT GROW UP! Stay at the age of 5. You don't realize it now, but right at this moment, you have everything. You are happy. I warn you: things will not stay this way.
