Into work on time this morning, which for me meant 9am as it's a Thursday. What a difference driving in traffic today after the mess that last night was! Still not staying late today. Plan to head home mid afternoon and hopefully make a stop or two on the way, assuming the roads in my area are less icy by then. Thank goodness I was able to fill up the tank last night half way through the drive home, or I'd probably have to have left the car somewhere when I ran out of gas.
There are so many cars on the side of the road. For those familiar with the area, right before the Falls of Neuse exit from 540 all the way up through the Triangle Town Blvd area are hundreds of cars that people left on the side of the road for what ever reason. Not that I blame them, after a while it was much faster to walk. I just wasn't about to leave my car somewhere if I could help it.
I'm very thankful that I didn't hit anyone while driving home last night, especially as the roads got worse and I was sliding out of my lane. I hope all that assholes who decided to drive on the outer shoulder got pulled somewhere and ticketed. Unless they had a legit reason for being there. I was so happy to see the one truck go by me and get immediately pulled by an unmarked cop who was about 10 cars in front of me :) I'm happy I wasn't one of those people I saw on Fox Rd. who'd slide off the road and into a ditch. There were two cars there, face forward in the ditch with the back of the car stuck up in the air. At least no one appeared to have been hurt.
Yesterday has got to be the absolute worst traffic day I've ever experienced. Had Barnes and Noble not been closing at 6pm last night, I'd planned to hang out there for a while before getting back into traffic, but I guess in the long run it was better to just do it. Who knows how late I'd have been otherwise getting home.
I still can't quite get my mind around the fact that I was driving home for 7.5 hours yesterday! It's just unbelievable. I hope to never go through that again!
