So yesterday I was talking with one of my co-workers about one of my bosses. Something she said during the conversation made me think that maybe my position here (tenuous at best) wasn't quite as secure as I thought it was. I, of course, started to stress about it. But there was something about me getting this position at all that seemed miraculous. The people are great, the money is excellent, the environment is good, it's close to home. I'd been on unemployment between short temp assignments where I'd been unable to get my foot in the permanent door for SO long, and then the perfect job for me happened along.
It wasn't like in stories, where it just dropped out of the sky. I'd had my feelers out for this company, anyway, and the only thing I could do was wait. But I'd despaired of getting ANY job, and then all of a sudden, right on time I got a *perfect* job.
(Well, as perfect as a temp job can be, anyway. What it lacks in permanency it makes up for in salary.)
I learned a lesson from that. I'd been stressing and crying about my state of employment (or lack of same). Most of you here got to witness it. Not a split second of all that blues crying got me any closer to what I needed. So why did I waste all of that energy?
I may possibly be out of here after six months, instead of twelve. If that's to be, it will. But I'm not gonna make myself sick worrying about how I'm gonna pay the rent and the bills and the car note without this lovely job.
Because it's, like, counterproductive.
Don't be thinking about your life all the time, about what you're gonna eat or drink. Don't think about what you're gonna wear. Isn't life more than eating, and your body more than what you wear?
Look at the birds. They don't work, they don't get a paycheck, they sho' don't have a bank account, yet they get fed. Aren't you better than a bird?
Do you honestly think that if you concentrate hard enough, you can make yourself taller?
And why do you care about clothes? Look at the flowers, how they grow. Just like the birds they don't work, they don't bring home any bacon. Yet nothing you could buy on Rodeo Drive is as beautiful as those flowers.
Now if the flowers can look great, without a paycheck or a credit card... and all THEY are is plant matter that's gonna be gone and forgotten in a couple of months... don't you think everything that you need will come to YOU, ya big crybaby?
Therefore, don't be thinking about it all the time: what am I gonna eat, or where am I gonna live, or how am I gonna get by. People drive themselves crazy thinking like that. The Universe* knows that you need that stuff.
Learn to get along with everybody; be good and do good, and what you need will come to you.
Don't think about the future. You can't control it; let the future take care of itself. You got enough to do with today.
Today, you have enough.
