This and that about tv and movies

The hubby and I have been pretty good about having a date night each month. And of course we always go to the movies. We've seen some pretty good ones lately.

Movies
Super 8 - this was really good. I loved everything about it, I thought the kids were great. The only thing I kind of rolled my eyes about was the heavyhandedness of the "lesson" (the one scene at the end). I would recommend it to anyone that loves Goonies, since the kinds of characters in Goonies is pretty much the same as Super 8

Bad Teacher - this was very entertaining and made me laugh. Of course there's no way a person could act the way Cameron Diaz's character does and still be a teacher but that isn't the point. The point is the growth she does, the humor of the dialog and the chemistry of the actors. Plus, I thought of all my teacher friend when she started grading. Seriously, I wish my teacher friends could write things like "stupid" or "are you fucking kidding".

There was one more movie but I can't remember. I'm actually going to see Harry Potter this Saturday with 829creatch and her family. I'm excited that I will be seeing it in the theater and so soon, considering I saw part one about three weeks ago.

Speaking of Netlix, I got an email today stating they are separating out the cost of DVD mail rentals and streaming rentals "so we can know where our money goes". Yeah, evidently they just wanted more money as I am paying 9.99 now for unlimited streaming and one dvd out at a time, but starting in September if I want both it will be 14.99, or 7.99 for one. Not very happy about it at all. It just seems like everyone is only out to make lots of money, what baout providing cool services for profit but not huge amounts of profit. Guess I'm just naive.

TV
I love that my shows mention Star Wars, both Leverage and White Collar did it this week. *g* It's always fun.

I'm finding that I'm not enjoying Leverage as much as I used to, I am really not liking Nathan at all. I think he's annoying and treats his team like crap all the while being drunk. And I am liking White Collar but I feel as though their mission is to tear out my heart and stomp on it. The theme seems to be Neil wanting to leave and planning to but also worrying about Peter, and Peter is lying to Neil as he tries to pin the boat art fire on him. At least Peter isn't in his face as much anymore, but still I wonder where they are going. The end of the Dentist of Detriot ep on the balcony? My heart in little pieces. Where is the fic?!?!?

And even this week's episode, Neil makes me hurt. I think that has a lot to do with Matt Bomer.

I have watched Falling Skies and while I liked the first episode, it has slowly gone downhill in my eyes. The dialog and/or the choices the characters are making are ridiculous and it makes me not care about them. And the casting agents failed because everyone's ages are off in my mind. I'm going to watch another episode and see how it is, but I fear I may be dropping it.

Also tried The Nine Lives of Chloe King and while I enjoyed the first episode, I feel that it's trying to be Buffy-like but the dialog is below-par for that. It's only ok so I'm not sure what I'm going to decide. It's an interesting concept but perhaps I have one too many highschool/teen shows on my list.

I'm excited that Burn Notice is back but it's disconcerting to see Michael so off-balance. And Eureka returned yesterday so I'm looking forward to that.

Funny, summer used to be light in the terms of TV, but not for me.

Work is busy. My Mgr. is officially retiring at the beginning of September which means she is going part time, working four days a week and they will have to fill the Manger role. The new Sr. Dir. for our area talked to me and is supporting me and wants me to get the position - - if I want it. I do, but I don't. I know I can run the department and do the functions, I'm leary of the manager meetings and politics. I told the Sr. Dir. that and he said that's because I haven't experienced it but he would mentor me. He is so excited about his new position that he makes me exicted. I need to update my resume... haven't done that in 7 years, so I need to get on that. I will have to interview for it and prove to the other upper management that I want the job.

There are two major projects coming up, one of which may have me traveling to the Boston area, but we're not sure when that is starting. There just seems to be a so much to do at work and little time.

We recently had some work done at the house, we now have a new roof, new concrete in our front path and a concrete pad for a shed that the hubby has not purchased yet. That will conclude the major projects for this year I think.
