Okay, so here I go again with the wannabe intellectualism (ie, my super summer boredom and bookworminess). Just bear with me, this passage is absolutely delicious (like applesauuuuuuce, haha).
Love is never any better than the lover. Wicked people love wickedly, violent people love violently, weak people love weakly, stupid people love stupidly, but the love of a free man is never safe. There is no gift for the beloved. The lover alone possesses his gift of love. The loved one is shorn, neutralized, frozen in the glare of the lover's inward eye.
Don't worry, no lengthy commentary or personal reflection today, I just wanted to copy that down because I liked it. "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison is probably one of the most interesting and beautifully written books I've read in quite sometime. I was glad I listened to Mrs. Gude about at least ONE thing, haha. Anyway, you all should read it (I'm serious).
So anyway, I just finished that one, and now I'm on to "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan. This summer is turning into "all the famous books I haven't read along with everything else i've been meaning to read all year" summer, haha, so if you have any suggestions to add to my list, please let me know.
-america (the book) [halfway done]
-tonto’s revenge [more than halfway done]
-the bluest eye [read]
-i know why the caged bird sings [read]
-the mystery of the dog in the night time [read]
