So I've changed my LJ title and byline to "Kim J's Anatomy" and "livin' la vida
chupacabra" to reflect the current state of career change from entertainment to medicine. Let's pray I don't go into adult entertainment to fund the increasing costs of an education in medicine. Momma knows that even if I were good enough at erotica writing to eke out a living at it, that it wouldn't even make a dent in the 2012 Fall matriculation of USC's Master's degree program in Physician Assistant (approx. 37,000 clams per year). I might have to work on my abs and pole dancing skills. There has to be a community college course like that somewheres. Hmmm.
On the sadder side, my Mom received word that two of her friends from college (they all went to the University of Auckland, New Zealand) died in the quake. I never met them, but having this happen doesn't really help during her first year as a widow. Some of the best memories my father and her shared with me is of how they met and fell in love in New Zealand. I'm super protective of everything Aussie and Kiwi lately.
I took my first exam today; it was in Psychology. In true alpha fashion, I argued that one of the questions had two possible choices out of four multiple choice answers and won half of the class those points. The professor (who looks like older Chak) is unfortunately, a classic narcissist; I'm resigned into thinking that all Psych profs are a bit touched in the head to begin with. He won't stop talking about his specialty of shamanism as practiced in mental institutions to help Latinos; so basically, he's not into psychology as much as para-psychology. And you thought Chak's akoonah matata was special!
The other classes are fine. A lot of the material is coming back to me; not a flood. Maybe drips and drabs. Trickle down edumacation is what I calls it. Yuk-yuk. The hospital volunteering continues to be full of gunshot wounds, stabbings, drunken debasement and homeless coats lined with maggots. Yum!
I read somewhere that the Year of the Rabbit is going to be much more languid and peaceful than last year's Metal Tiger. So if you're expecting shitloads of stuff to happen, chill. It's the best time to take up a new hobby, finish a long-standing project *cough*
audabee 's fic *cough* or embark on new educational horizons.
Even if it involves the chupacabra. Anything's better than last year.
