Actually, I never finished reading that, but I was actually thinking about vampires and baking chocolate chip cookies. I meant two separate thoughts by that, not vampires who bake cookies, although that would be amusing.
This weekend's movie wrap up includes Duplicity and 30 Days of Night. Loved the former, meh on the latter. Duplicity was shocking in that somebody actually thought about what they were writing and directing. And Julia was less anoying in this than she has been in most other films. Plus, Clive. Hello. But a very clever, entertaining film. And when your supporting cast is Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti, you really can't go wrong. They're both fantastically vengeful and corrupt in this. Also, I didn't have the whole movie figured out within the first 30 minutes, so MAJOR points for that.
30 Days of Night had the most ridiculous premise. Barrow is actually a larger town, and, gee, they get mail and deliveries, and the state patrol actually has jurisdiction there. And, also gee, Alaska flies in and out of there all the time. I'm guessing at least once a day. So I struggled with accepting the isolated concept. It would have been smarter to make it a fictional town. That said, the vamps are super creepy, ruthless, and don't give a crap about how pretty any of the ladies are. No sexy. I liked it that way. They were just freaky. Although the alpha vamp made all the other vamps seem like a bunch of silly harpies after a while. It would have been better if the alpha vamp had more screen time, as he scared the bejeezus outta me. And, after a while, chopping people's heads off just becomes funny.
So I decided I should make my list of my top favorite vamp movies. Why? Who cares. In no particular order:
From Dusk til Dawn
Near Dark
Perfect Creature
Dracula (1979) - Don't even try to tell me that Frank isn't hawt
The Lost Boys
The Horror of Dracula
Shadow of the Vampire
Fright Night
Blade
Onto the cookies. Since it's cold and pouring down rain like crazy today, I was thinking about baking cookies. But then I might eat them all as soon as they come out of the oven. Still mulling that one over.
