I'm sure Netflix has been running all the way to bank since I've had DVD's sitting on the top of my TV forever and a day. But I finally started cranking on them. So my 60-second reviews (like anyone cares):
Slumdog Millionare: Meh. Sort of clever. Sort of interesting in parts. But otherwise, meh.
Frost/Nixon: Wow. I figured it might be good in a History Channel sort of way, but wow. I was riveted; leaning forward during that last interview bit. Who'da thunk? And an impressively balanced depiction. I was expecting a demonization of Nixon, not a three dimensional portrait. (Although could have done without the image of Matthew MacFadyen as a blonde.)
The Reader: Yes, Kate deserved the Oscar. Not a terribly entertaining film, but an excellent character study. And nice to see Ralph Fiennes brooding. He does it so well.
Passengers: Seriously awful! I only put it on the queue since I like Anne Hathaway, but I didn't last 30 minutes.
Marley & Me: I liked it, despite a few fumbles.
The Visitor: Fantastic, moving film. I wasn't sure based on the paltry description, but it was really good. (And hopefully will make people question the abdication of civil rights.)
Doubt: Meryl Streep kicks ass yet again. And the director let the ending be brilliant. Thank you, sir, for not dumbing it down.
Underworld: Rise of Lycans: I love this shit. The CGI was SO laughably awful, but, still, I love these movies! What's more fun than seeing Bill Nighy be a vampire (aside from Bill Nighy being turned into a zombie). It was better than the second one at least (although I do have a Lucian bias). And the first one will always be far and away the best. But this movie is what it is. (And Craig Parker, too!)
Wolverine: Yes, I actually made it to a theatre! Went to see this on Friday. It was fun. Definitely better than X3. But again, it is what it is. At least Hugh's hair was way better in this one. And I've always liked Liev Schreiber, even if he was a dick when my sister talked to him on the phone when she worked at his dad's video store (long story).
Next weekend is Star Trek. It seems that everyone either loves it or meh's it, but I don't really care since I've sat through drivelous crap just to watch Karl Urban be pretty. I really don't care for his Bones hair, but then again, I'm the one who thought Lord Vaako was totally hawt.
