4) Super System: A Course in Power Poker (Doyle Brunson et al., B&G Publishing, 1978. 605 pp. w/appendices.)

This is the must-read book for anyone interested in professionally pursuing poker, written by the best player of all time. What more can I say?

Well, perhaps that it's deliciously informative and surprisingly analytical, but gets a bit too complex at times for its straightforward tone. This isn't a book for raw beginners--but anybody who's had at least a bit of experience should cotton to it fairly well. Only a quarter of the book proper is actually on Hold'Em, though. Since this book is thirty years old (man, I can't believe we're closer to 2010 now than 2000), there's a fair bit on stud poker, Lowball, their variants, and interestingly, draw poker. Who knew how big that was in 1978?
