(no subject)
I'm happy right now. I just found out that I'm getting published. Granted, it's just in Inkwell, my university's literary magazine, but still. Three of my poems made it in. That made my day. I submitted to Spires, which is an intercollegiate litarary magazine, a while ago, but haven't heard back from them yet. Maybe I'll get in there too.
I started volunteering at an African Refugee and Immigrant Services organization yesterday. I helped out with their after school program. Kids go there after school and get help with their homework and reading and stuff. These kids are from Sudan and Somalia, mostly, refugees from the famine and fighting there. I tutored this really shy girl, mostly. She was in the ninth grade and seemed really focused and hard-working, and very dignified. She read out loud to me, and I thought her accent was pretty. She really brightened up when I asked her to teach me some basic Somali, and didn't laugh at my pronunciation. I'm going back today, and I think I'll try to greet her in Somali and see what happens.
I had to take Sean Bad to the ER last night, cause he got some grit in his eye and it was still hurting seven hours later. Turns out he has a slight corneal abrasion on his left eye. I spent the two hour wait reading Dangerous Angels by Francesca Lia Block. I love love love FLB. She's amazing. I started calling Sean my secret agent lover man (which is the name of Weetzie Bat's lover in the books) as a joke and he wasnt creeped out. Ha. ten points for him. Who doesnt want to be a secret agent lover man or woman? Who doesn't want to have one? Honestly. My anxiety tried to flare up real bad during the wait, because I was alone in a room full of strangers, but I managed to step on it and write it away. Hooray for medications.
I'm sick and my voice is going away. Bleh.
