Goodbye Pony :(
Today, beloved Pony, rat and friend to all, passed away.
We knew she had been sick, with possibly a brain tumor most likely, and knew a vet wouldn't be able to do anything about that. It started with her coordinating and balance being slightly off, and just seemed to get worse. Yesterday she seemed a lot different, and we knew it would only be a matter of time. Stacy picked her up and saw that the poor girl's teeth had grown substantially and curved inward. This meant she was no longer eating. She was awfully thin. We didn't realize this until yesterday, and we debated back and forth if she was in misery or not, and if there was a humane way to put her out of it, but I am the sort that thinks, if an animal could talk maybe they would want to choose for themselves how to go, and also, she didn't express pain in any usual way. Plus if the rat were in the wild they'd go on their own in a natural way too, so we decided to let nature take its course, especially since none of us could actually kill any living creature (on purpose I mean). We thought about but ultimately just could not. But wanted her to be ok.
So there she lay now, at the bottom of the cage in a corner, where she took her last stand against what we are 99% sure was a brain tumor. We will have a little burial for her. She was a good rat, friendly, cuddly, fun, and very cute. And we will all miss her.
Here's to you pony! I will drink an alcoholic beverage today, in your name. And possibly more than one.
