Or does the first point really negate the second?

I suppose it is. Although, for a position of such questionable power, I'm certain sanity need not be so much a concern.

And here most would consider it of utmost importance, no matter the position.

Sanity is a valued thing.

Although, in the end, it really does seem like a convenient coping mechanism for this place.
